Lack of Data-Driven Technologies

Given the sheer volume of data produced by fleet on a daily basis as well as the various data platforms in multiple formats, the fleet environment is in need of support of agile, data-driven technologies to help capture, harness and consolidate information.

From this information, analytics is performed to drive informed decisions and timeous actions for possible business results. Conventional fleet management departments focusing on reports and monitoring while executing daily operations within budget, are not looking for, or needing technologies to help them analyse for cost reduction opportunities.

Without data and report analysis, insight for cost reduction opportunities is extremely limited. In order to conduct analysis, a relative life cycle cost view per vehicle needs to be established first. Sophisticated tools and big data software is needed to combine and compile measurable data.

Should a fleet department be mandated to produce radical fleet cost savings in the company, they first have to be equipped with the necessary technologies to enable them before they will be able to produce a possible successful outcome. Conventional fleet management environments are incapable of producing material cost savings results due to the absence of the technology toolsets needed to achieve success.
